GEOTHERMAL ENERGY PROJECT

ZINC oversaw public communication for the City of Yellowknife during the six-month lead up to a public vote related to the $90M Con Mine Community Energy System Project. The goal? Clearly explain the technical aspects of a complex and innovative green energy project, including its benefits and risks. We helped residents understand the project by sharing information via an extensive project website, hosting Open House and Community Café events, working with local and national news media, and writing project newsletter updates. The result was a high-level of meaningful public debate, strong voter turnout, and confirmation of support for the project through the federal government and the Green Municipal Fund. The format set up by ZINC for the project has since been used as a template by the city to communicate about other major civic projects.
