Meet the Team

Principal, Founder – Marci Hotsenpiller

ZINC Founder and Principal, Marci Hotsenpiller is an award-winning communications consultant with 15+ years of experience. She began her PR career at online marketplace Abebooks during a period of international growth that led to the company being acquired by Amazon. Prior to founding ZINC, Marci held senior management positions in government and now is one of the top communications and public engagement strategists for government projects in western Canada. Marci speaks regularly about working with media, is a member of IAP2 and CPRS and holds a BA in Communications from McGill University and Simon Fraser University. While her current focus is helping local governments succeed, she spent a decade helping innovative tech startups earn standout media coverage (via her company ZINC PR – details here.) Marci splits her time between Victoria and the Comox Valley.

Director, ZINC Strategies – Colleen Dane

Colleen is an award-winning journalist with experience in newsrooms big and small. She has covered socially responsible tourism in Africa and been part of Poynter.org sessions on social media storytelling in a news context – both as a result of Jack Webster Foundation Canadian media fellowships granted for her journalism achievements. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism and Communications from Carleton University in Ottawa.

After gaining attention for her skills in the newsroom, Colleen was wooed away to do strategic communications for organizations involved in the contentious aquaculture sector. She loves a tight deadline and a challenging issue which makes her an invaluable resource for government and private-sector ZINC clients.

Senior Communications Advisor – Leigh Carter

Leigh has over 30 years of senior corporate communications experience with Crown corporations, major provincial associations, and government. From leading communications during the controversial launch of photo radar at the Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC), to being part of the team that created the award-winning CBC-TV series “Doctor Doctor”, to holding GM-level public affairs positions at Metro Vancouver and the Comox Valley Regional District, to developing the first social media platforms for regional government – Leigh’s background is diverse.

Her respected background and media credentials (in major market newspaper, radio and television) have well-positioned Leigh to help organizations think strategically about public reaction to issues. As a sought-after speaker (and expert) on communications, she joins ZINC to advise government clients on using communications and social media effectively in times of crisis—and celebration.

Senior Communications Consultant – Susan Auchterlonie

Susan has over 25 years of communications and public relations experience in both the public and private sectors. She brings a proactive, creative, and pragmatic approach to communications planning and project execution. During her 11 years with North Island College—most recently in the role of Director, College & Community Relations—Susan’s commitment to consultation, strong community relationships, and collaboration contributed greatly to the organization’s enhanced profile and reputation strength.

In addition to her senior level experience in the post-secondary world, Susan has worked with clients in Alberta’s telecommunications, oil and gas, and electric power generation sectors. Susan holds a B.A. from the University of Victoria, and she is thrilled to be returning to the realm of communications consulting and the exciting challenges, issues and successes associated with delivering client and community-centred results.

Manager, Creative Services – Lindsay Kaisla

Lindsay coordinates the day-to-day management and production of creative projects at ZINC. She is a skilled graphic designer with an aptitude for research, an eye for detail, and a drive for deadlines. She holds a B.A. from the University of Victoria, and her ongoing studies in communications, visual studies and digital media means she keeps an eye on the ever-changing digital landscape. Lindsay is based in Victoria.

She has an Honours B.A. and is currently completing the public relations program at the University of Victoria.
