CITY OF courtenay
Cousins Avenue Upgrades Project
The City of Courtenay is preparing to complete above- and below-ground upgrades to a section of Cousins Avenue. The project will include road improvements, repaving and replacement of underground services that have reached the end of their life. ZINC was retained via McElhanney to support the City of Courtenay to consult the community on three design options for the corridor. This involved an online survey and in-person event. The challenge here was that the area includes a unique mix of light industrial, single-family residential and mixed-use buildings. This means that residents/frequent users have different needs based on their main use of the area, and therefore conflicting feedback on the most-pressing upgrades.
The open house brought in 19% of direct-mail recipients, and the over 130 survey responses (given the small target audience) illustrates the successful reach and high level of engagement on this project. ZINC wrapped up the project with a detailed, graphic-focused engagement summary report that will help the project team consider public input through the next stages of design planning.
