City of Campbell River
AIRPORT RENOVATION & RUNWAY EXTENSION

The Campbell River Airport is a gateway to the north and popular stop for international fishing enthusiasts. The airport received $8.5M to extend its runway and renovate the terminal building. The challenge? Keep passengers, pilots, residents, visitors, tenants and neighbours up to date on the project while minimizing disruptions over an 18-month period. ZINC became the project communications contact, worked with local media, consulted with interest groups, and used print and online tools to make sure everyone knew what was happening. An additional element involved setting up a public art program and handling the RFP process, which resulted in the installation of the impressive “Thunderbird” sculpture by local First Nation and Campbell River-area artists.
